Dr Charilaos Yiotis offers free mentoring for university students and researchers on grant writing, project management and pursuing an academic career abroad.

 

 

Mentor's experience and current occupation (summary)

 

Dr Charilaos Yiotis studied biology in University of Patras, Greece and received the Greek equivalent of a first class degree in Biological Sciences in 2005. In 2006 he was selected through a competitive interview process to start his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology and after fulfilling his compulsory army service, he obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Plant Physiology (Division of Plant Physiology, Department of Biology, University of Patras, Greece) in 2012.

In 2012 he was successfully appointed as a senior, European Research Council post-  doctoral fellow in Professor Jennifer McElwain’s interdisciplinary research group at University College Dublin. His research focused on how simulated changes in Earth’s atmospheric  composition at different intervals in Earth history influenced photosynthetic physiology in different plant functional groups. In 2016 he was awarded a 92000 euro Post-doctoral fellowship by the Irish research council for his project entitled "Futu-rye". The aim of the project is the identification of key traits associated with increased yield and resilience in grasses  under future climatic conditions.

Mr. Yiotis is currently working on Futu-rye and various other research projects.
